Regular Meetings in Perth
Thanks to a grant received from the Perth Community Investment Fund, we are now able to hold regular meetings in Perth.
Having held some initial meetings in 2024, we have now moved to Bowerswell House. The meetings are still from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on the third Friday of each month (excluding January, July and August).
You can find it on Google Maps at https://maps.app.goo.gl/dUcmx1kUGKDrpCWU9
We look forward to seeing you there and building up a community of those with neurological conditions in the Perth area.

Many thanks to our member Kate Luke who along with her daughter Elspeth rode the Forth and Clyde canal on her trike over two days. The first day covered the distance from Glasgow to Falkirk despite all that ScotRail and a very wet morning could throw at them. They were joined on this day by their friend Peter, and your Secretary, Paul, went along for the ride as well.
The second, somewhat drier, day completed the ride and there was surprise gathering of well-wishers to greet Kate on her return to Falkirk.
Kate and Elspeth were raising money for both Neuro Central and Lomond Mountain Rescue and they have raised a fantastic £2,000+. Thank you both!

Recent Feedback from our Members
At our first 2024 meeting in February at Stirling County Cricket Club, we asked our members to give us some feedback on how we did during 2023. Many thanks to all those who responded. We were delighted to receive a lot of positive feedback which makes what we so so much more worthwhile. Comments ranged from a few words to a detailed critique. To pick just one of the shorter ones:
“Neuro Central is really good for sharing problems. I feel supported in both mental and physical health.”
Many thanks to the Auchterarder Co-op and all the Co-op members who supported Neuro Central. In November as a result of this support, we received a grand total of £3216.55! This will be invaluable in helping us support our members to live with their neurological conditions.

Sandy Dunn, Elspeth Kirkpatrick and Grant Roberts, ably supported by Julia Dunn and Donna Toher, decided to take part in The Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra to raise funds for Neuro Central. What can we say? It is an astonishing effort for us. The Ultra features remote Scottish glens, technical single track, airy ridges, and high mountain passes. It is run over 52km and includes a height gain of 4,000m. This year it was held on Sunday 17 September and the weather was not at its best.
This is their report on how they got on. Click on the picture to read it.
So far they have raised a phenomenal £1,540 for us. Thank you to them and to all who have donated. If you haven’t donated and would like to, this will take you to their fundraising page where you can also read more about these amazing people.
Ready for the off . . .
Our thanks once again to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital Neurology Team who, on a windswept day, went on another sponsored walk and made it to the top of Dumyat. They have raised a brilliant £410 for Neuro Central. Thank you all.

Made it to the top!
Following receipt of a generous grant from the Arnold Clark Community Fund, Neuro Central was able to build on the success of a programme of events held in Auchterarder to help our members live well with a neurological condition. We did this by holding three similar day-long events for our members at our Stirling base during March, April and May in 2023. The topics covered included:
Day 1
An insight into the work of a neurological specialist nurse
What to expect from a neuro physiotherapist
Day 2
An overview of the new Social Security Scotland benefits system
Practical advice on looking after our feet from a Foot Care Practitioner
Day 3
Introducing the benefits of talking therapy by Neuro Central’s counsellor
An entertainment session and feedback
And to make sure that everyone was well looked after, we provided a tasty buffet lunch on each day, followed by a short exercise session.
All the feedback given was very positive much to the delight of all those volunteers who had worked hard to put on these events.

Many thanks to Doug Luke who ran the Glencoe Marathon to raise funds for us on 04 September, completing what the organisers called 'one of the toughest marathon routes in wild weather...' in just under six hours.
Here he is coming to the finishing line and in the process raising £1,697 for Neuro Central, well over his target of £1,000. There are more pictures here.
And as an added bonus for Neuro Central, his employer match funded his amount to the tune of £1,582.
